Operational Vice President (2nd VP), Reservations Chair

Did you have any help and guidance with this position?

The MSA has a very strong team culture where everyone helps each other to succeed. As the reservations chair, I worked closely with all of the other operational chairs, giving me a deeper understanding of how the positions are closely intertwined and equally important to MSA operations. And when I came into the Operational Vice President position halfway through the MSA year, I was able to learn the ins and outs of the position from the previous VP.

What advice would you give to someone considering this position?

MSA Operations is all about building relationships inside and outside the organization. Every decision should be taken with the goal to grow the association membership, while at the same time providing quality social and professional opportunities for our members.

What is your leadership philosophy?

Military spouses have such amazingly varied experiences and interests, so I aim to learn what each person brings to the table and how best to leverage their passion. I'm still learning every day about my team members and I'm amazed at what they accomplish for the spouse community.

What aspect of MSA drew you to join?

I was mainly attracted to the fun social events for my first two years here, and finally decided to take the opportunity to be part of the MSA board this year. While I think the unit-level spouse group is the most fundamental level of support and camaraderie, I've really enjoyed getting to know spouses across the base community and broadening my network.

What's next for you?

I'm hoping to continue to serve the MSA in a board position, both for the opportunity to serve the spouse community and to better prepare me to re-enter the workforce in a few years. Plus I've made a lot friends through the MSA and we have fun together!
